Rod End and Spherical Bearing Specification – Two Paths to Choose

Path #1 –
Cross-reference Interchange
If you know the code for a competitor's part family – you can use our Product Interchange Guide (see link below) to easily cross the part to the equivalent QA1 product family.
Path #2 –
Six Key Factors to Consider When Specifying

Load Requirements: Choose a rod end (or spherical bearing) that matches the radial load capacity your system demands. However, don’t focus exclusively on load ratings—consider other factors like wear, misalignment, and temperature as well.

Material Type: Select materials that are compatible with your environment. Whether you need carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, or aluminum, the material should match the system’s operational demands.
Motion Type: Consider the misalignment angle and the degree of dynamic motion in your design. For high-misalignment applications, choose high-misalignment rod ends or rod ends used with high misalignment spacers.
Environmental Conditions: For applications in harsh environments (extreme temperatures, moisture, dust, etc.), consider sealed or self-lubricating rod ends. Greaseable designs may be better for systems where routine servicing is possible.
Cost: Evaluate the trade-offs between initial cost and long-term performance. While high-end materials or greaseable designs may come with a higher initial cost, their durability and lower maintenance requirements can often justify the investment.
Configuration: Consider pre-assembled components such as studs, grease fittings, spacers, or linkages that simplify assembly in your application. Configuring rod ends with additional features can save time and reduce installation complexity.
